My mom grew up in Pittsburgh, but I feel completely removed from that part of her life because both of her parents had passed away by the time I was born. Furthermore, my mom doesn’t have many relatives, so we never went back to her hometown for visits. It was easy for me to fall in love with Pittsburgh while I was studying at Carnegie Mellon, but I always found it strange that my mom grew up not all that far away from where I was living in the city. I photographed this series because I was intrigued to visit and record a place from my mom’s life that was completely foreign to me.
