modern art is kinda crazy

adam & octopus
adam & an octopus

on saturday afternoon, carol & i met up with adam at the museum of contemporary art. there were certainly some interesting exhibits, such as all the crocheted stuffed animals and the silent film about a bus wreck by dutch artist aernout mik.

as expected, there was hardly any photography: only a few images by larry clark and 1 image from matthew barney’s cremaster cycle.

the main exhibit was a retrospective on the work of minimalist dan flavin who uses mostly fluorescent tubes in 10 different colours and 5 shapes to create his pieces. i had never really seen work like his before, and i enjoyed how each piece [especially the larger 1s] really created a mood and an atmosphere. my favourite piece was “pink out of a corner (to jasper johns).”
