colossal statues dot canada
apparently in canada, they have loads of gigantic monuments of everything imaginable. i would love to take a road trip across the country to visit a bunch of these because i love crazy roadside stuff like that.
my favourites would have to be the pierogie [left, a pittsburgher’s dream], the curling stone, and of course all the dinosaurs.
in case you’re wondering why in the world someone would erect a massive trout, oilcan, squirrel or kielbasa, the creator of the site offers this explanation after visiting the mammoth pierogie: “it actually did look really good but what was more amazing was we, like many others, have gone a great deal out of our way to see it. glendon is out of the way for anybody. we stopped in at the gift shop and bought a plastic spoon with a decal and a miniature pyrogy on it and i realized what the monument really meant. it was a way for a small out-of-the-way town to draw people to it. while there, they might get gas or a meal or a plastic spoon or maybe see that this is a neat little town.”
i would love to see the enormous pierogie, so if anyone is down for a trip to glendon, let me know.
