national postal museum

until i started reading about all the various museums in d.c., i had no idea that we have a national postal museum. for some reason, i find mail really intriguing: stamps are fun to look at, i love sending and receiving mail, i’m obsessed with postcards, and i even find the stamps and barcodes put on mail at the post office to be of interest. so the national postal museum was fun; there were exhibits on the history of the postal service, the evolution of envelopes, direct mail and more. there are 2 special exhibits going on right now. they have john lennon’s childhood stamp album on display, which i—as a beatles fan—enjoyed seeing. the main special exhibit is called stamps take flight, and it is a collection of air and space stamps. it was certainly exciting to see an inverted jenny [see above image] in person.
