los hoteles
we didn’t bother reserving hotel rooms before we left for perú since we weren’t 100% sure of what we were going to be doing. we really lucked out though because the hotels where we stayed were cheap and clean, plus they had private bathrooms with hot water, and they provided breakfast.
in aquas calientes we stayed at la pequeña casita. our triple with private bathroom only cost $45. this hotel is located just off the main street. the biggest plus was that it was super close to the bus for machu picchu, which was nice since we wanted to get an early start and beat most of the other visitors there.
the breakfast at la pequeña casita was simple but nice: bananas, bread & jam, tea and orange juice. also, our room had a nice view of the mountains and market across the river.

in cusco we stayed at hostal q’awarina, which was just up the hill from the plaza de armas. here our triple was only $30. the woman who worked there was incredibly friendly, and when i didn’t show up for breakfast since i was sick, she brought food to the room. there was a small balcony off of our room where we had a beautiful view of cusco. my only complaint about this hotel is that it was quite cold. i’m not sure if jimmy or ilario were cold, but i was freezing all night and morning.
