banana money
a del monte sticker somehow ended up on a $20 bill during the printing process. when currency is printed, it goes through 3 phases: the back is printed, then the face, then the serial numbers and treasury seal stamps are added. what’s so amazing about this special bill is that the serial number and seal are printed on top of the sticker. during the printing process, the treasury is usually rather fastidious, so it’s surprising that something like this slipped through the cracks. a man in phoenix currently owns the bill; he paid over $10,000 on ebay for it in 2003. he is auctioning it off, and the banana money is expected to go for $20,000 or more.
