The Best Part of Me…
would have to be my eyes. Not because I think they are beautiful, but because I am grateful to still have them. I went through four different series of surgical operations on them. It started because I kept getting eye infections that would impair my vision. We discovered that it was because of my long eyelashes growing downward. In seventh grade I had my first surgery, but it was unsuccessful. So during winter break I had another unsuccessful operation. By this time I became very depressed, because I was not able to play sports or other activities with my friends because of the incision lines were not healed. The third time my surgeon came up with the solution to remove a strip of muscle above my eyelids. After this operation I was in a lot more pain. Unfortunately, the third time was not the charm this chicky. The fourth time it was successful! By the time all the surgeries were over with, I was left with scars above my eyelids and it was time for me to take high school senior pictures. I couldn’t get myself to take the composite because my scars were still too dark to cover with make up.
Over the past three years the scars have become lighter and I’m always grateful that I don’t have to live with blinding eye infections.
