Information space is the hierarchy and architecture of information that has been organized in 1 way or another. For this class project, we had to choose a piece of work—such as a book, website or magazine—that was brimming with content and visualize its information space kinetically.
For my project, I chose to focus on Fodor’s Citypack London, 4th Edition. Since I was going to be studying abroad in London just a couple of months after this project, I thought of how I [as a soon-to-be pseudo-Londoner] would use the book. It has 6 chapters, each of which is divided into sections. So 1st I would figure out what I wanted to do—eat, go to a park, hit up a big tourist spot, figure out what special events are going on that month, etc. Then I would find the appropriate chapter, and I would dive deeper and deeper into the chapter until I found what I wanted to do and enough detail for me to get there. My visualization of the book’s information space highlights 3 imaginary days.
